Hi, y'all! This is 50 and I want to share something fun that we've been doing for years. We started so long ago and it makes the cutest pictures and the sweetest memories. Every year about this time we have Witches Tea and so should you.
You can make it as in depth or easy as you want; store-bought or homemade, your good china or paper plates. Just make it fun! The main thing is dress in black and wear witches hats. Some years we even let the guys attend and serve more "entree" foods.
Scroll to the bottom for the recipes I use but you can buy scones at the bakery or use pre-made refrigerated dough, just the same. We love Bigelow Constant Comment tea! You'll need to slice some lemons, get some milk and sugar cubes, too.
This is a great book to help you get started with tea parties, if you're a reader like me. I bought it many years back and use several of the recipes in it. The basic scones and the mock cream are mainstays of my tea parties, no matter the season.
2 cups flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
2 Tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
6 Tablespoons butter
½ cup buttermilk
Mix dry ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Make a well in the center and pour in buttermilk. Mix until dough clings together. It will be a bit sticky. Don’t over mix. It will make your scones tough. Flour your baking sheet (I prefer a baking stone but a cookie sheet works fine). Turn your dough onto the flour and shape into a 6-8 inch round. It should be about 1½ inches thick. Cut dough into 8 pie wedges and separate the pieces a little. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 to 20 minutes or until light brown.
I add 1 cup cinnamon chips or chocolate chips. The girls all prefer the cinnamon chips. You can chop up an apple or peach and add some cinnamon, too. It always turns out good.
1 can peaches in heavy syrup
Cut the fresh strawberries into the peaches and syrup.
8 oz. Cream cheese, softened
2 Tablespoons powdered sugar
½ cup sour cream
Mix all ingredients together.
Y'all please send some pics of your get togethers and have a great party. Happy Halloween!
